Game Art 0.8

Just a few ideas and designs for other potential buildings we could use on our Island.

Game Art 0.7

Here is an updated version of the fortress concept with the draw bridge included, obviously it will be steam powered, thought it would be a good idea to connect the whole fortress with pipes so the energy can be provided around the city and not just power the drawbridge, I also think it would be a good idea to have a facility outside the fortress in where the enery is created from the mines.

Game Art 0.6

Here is the first concept drawing for the Fort, before drawing this we had comprimised and gone for a more rectangular shape fortress as we believe it would be easier to build in Secondlife. Overall I was quite pleased with the outcome, however theres going to be a few alterations to this design, firstly the entrance is going to change, and im thinking of including a wind up drawbridge are something simalar. Also we have just recently changed the shape of the fortress to a kind of L Shape, as we wanted to expand the area to create bigger buildings within the fortress, so im going to carry on development of the fortress

Game Art 0.5

As a group we though it would be best by starting of designing the fort area as that will kind of be the main focul point of the island as thats the point in which the area can deffend or attack any possible tresspassers. We all agreed that its best to have the fortress surround the kind of mainland buildings such as the Lighouse,Tavern and Market and maybe anything else that is included.Heres an image of something were trying to recreate but we decided not to have the fortess cover so much of the land and we plan to have the docks and warehouse outside the fortress.

So I started doing a little research on Fortress and to try find any images that may help me. Most Fortress's I noticed can be found on the top of Valleys/hills but thats not something we are planning on doing. All have vocal points of attacks and are based around the city and can only be enteres by a drawbridge, something we can look into, also alot of fortesses I noticed have a kind of watch tower, where I think would be a good idea is to have the lighthouse as a kind of watchtower.

Heres A Images that really interested me,as shown below is Fort Boyard, as known by the popular gameshow, I really like the oval shape as im looking for something more modern that the typical kind of square/rectangular fortress.

Been playing alot on Assasins Creed 2 recently and unfortunatly I cant find any decent images but alot of the cities in the game are covered by a fortress around so I can take reference from them.

I was kind of looking at the image of Fort Boyard and it kind of reminded me of a Stadium, I really like the structures and design of some of the modern stadiums in the world and could easily take influence from to create an unique steampunk influenced fortess.

Game Art 0.4

I was reminded by my group to take a look at the game Machinarium, of which we viewd a presentation of at the BAF Game Festival. The game has a kind of steampunk/Industrial feel to it. I find the artwork simply stunning and I really like the unique designs of the buildings and the texturing and its kind of a feel im looking for so i plan to take huge influence from the artwork in the game.

Game Art 0.3

This is a rougth sketch I did basically trying to visualise things and how the environment might look, and got a few ideas for some potential buildings that could be included, however at this point I had not read the brief and qickly learned inwhich there needs to be a Fort, Lighthouse/Tavern included, A Market,Dock and warehouse included. However some of the building designs could be quickly alterned to look like thus mentioned. I really like the Docking station I included above, and so did most the group,so i could take that idea and develop it, One point of feedback was that the environment did not look Steampunk enought so I need to take that point on. As a group we discussed the potential in including a kind of mining/track feature in which some great ideas came across and The cranes would be great to include. So even though the image was not really properly thought out we got some great ideas as a group how the develop things further and I took on feedback from the group in how to improve the designs and I got more of a feeling for the island.

We also drew a kind of floorplan for the area which we were happy about at the time, this was great as it could give me a better idea of scale and where the buildings would be placed so I could design to those aspects.

Game Art 0.2

As I was concentrating on the more archiectual side of the project and coming up with concept designs for buildings and interactive objects that may occur I thought it would be a good idea to fucus my research on the buildings aspect and leave the other reasearch such as the characters and so on to the offers in the group.

Things I found out in general is that most importantly steampunk is basically combining victorian influences in a modern format.

Heres Some examples of quick researched images I like.
