Digital Film Year 2 - Development Shot 8

This is the final scene in where the title of the film will be shown and I also want to include a man been shot which I didnt include in the storyline however I'm adding it on as I believe it will improve the title sequence.

Heres kind of an experiment I did with text, for this I just wrote "100 Bullets" to a similar style as to Saul Bass typography on black card then cut them out and glued them ont white paper then scraped some red chalk onto it to give the effect of blood splatter. I actually Im pleased with they trypography results and believe this is a potential rout to head down as it gives the sense of handrawn text which is apropiate for the styke and feel im looking for as obviously graphic novels are hand drawn so its potential typograph I could include.

Heres a Quick image I drew on black card, taking influence from reasearch I gathered into creating an interesting image. I really like this image as creates a feel of the character been shot and blood been splattered out and believe it would work well in the final scene as the gun shoots him. I plan though to take an image from the novel as to get a better shape and continue the feel of taking images from the novel to keep consistant.

Heres a more developed image which I continued with the same style as previously. I found the image in the novel and used it as it was almost identical to which I have just created however looks more human figure like and the idea for further development is t have a blood splatter with in the image which would create a great effect.

Digital Film Year 2 - Development Shot 7

For this shot, I wanted it to build up to the climax, in where im planning on having the chracter holding a gun and shooting but how to go about the idea im not too sure as I have a couple of interesting ideas.

First off one of my ideas, even though the concept is very rougth Is to have the character standing still holding a gun and then shooting it and having a bullet travel across the screen, which will then move onto the other screen for the climax. I like the concept and belive the lines could work well to interact with the bullets. But first off I need to find / design a better image of the woman inwhich to use in the shot to reveal a better idea of if the shot will work.

Heres a interesting image I found of the woman in the novel of her holding a gun which looks really good and would work well with what im looking for.

Heres a more developed idea of the previous concept and I really like the design and believe it will work well and like the postioning of the lines and could interact with the text well by having it placed within and as the bullet is shot have the text coming in fast from the other direction which could potentially be a nice effect to use.

My other idea is to have the woman animated to walk across the screen but have no background which could be a nice change of direction from the previos scenes and could work well. I also like the idea of her walking up to the other side but stopping near the edge. As to in the next scene you just get a shot of the gun as its shot which would look good and is worth experimenting with.I also like the idea of having a few blood splatters as she walks across but having them miss, to emphasise shes the strong kind of undeafeatable character in the novel.

Digital Film Year 2 - Development Shot 6

For this shot i wanted a shot of the police in the background coming after the woman as this would work well with the previous shot as would then provide veiwers the infomation of what is chasing after her, and could include a nice effect of the landscrape behind the cars which could look quite cool.

Heres my first concept I did by experminting with card, then scanning it onto the computer, howvere I have not edited on Photoshop yet, but shall if I choose to develop this idea further. Im quite happy with this image and like the effect of the landscrape background, that works very well with the police cars. I decided I wanted to try something different and used cut out lines to create car shaped designs, that looked nice however I still think I will probably opt for a more silohette image on the final, but its worth experimenting. I like the hill effect that looks nice and plan to place the text in the middle where the white space is. Overall im very pleased with this result and shall look into developing it further.

Heres my second concept, this was a more simplified version, however I had really good idea for this and the idea would work more effective into this design, however Im still unsure about the police cars and shall look into experimenting with different media to create a better police car which would be more complimentry to the shot and the effect im planning on playing with.

Heres an image from 100 bullets which I really like and is perfect for what im trying to acheive as the positioning is perfect as it gives the impression of the cars jumping over a hill which is what im looking for, so I decided to take this image and play with the cars on illustrator.

I took the image and put into illustator and drew around them and im really happy with results and have decided to leave a bit of white in the window as I believe that will work well with the effect i'm going for and could even consider the idea of blood running down the window screen.

Here is further development, for this image I have gone onto illustartor and created a better shape which is more hill like inwhich for the cars to jump over, I decided to experiment with having light on top of the car and having them alternate, however I dont like the shape, and thought of an interesting idea of instead of the light been used. Not to have lights but have the middle of the screen switch from re to blue which could be a cool and different effect to use. I also like the idea of the cars been animated to jump over the hill which is an effect I could experiment with.

Digital Film Year 2 - Development Shot 5

Shot 5 Was a shot inwhich I had took huge influence from the "Catch me if u can" title sequence,I had not used any influence from images taken from the book however I wanted an shot of the woman running across the city landscape. Heres what I come up with, which i follwed on from my quick sketch on the storyboard.

Heres a concept of what I came up using card, however was not happy with the colour tone as the scanner deleted some of the tone, as to the eye I was really happy with the image. so decided I to draw around the image in illustator and colour it in with the apropiate colours However I was please within the image apart from what I just mentioned as I had some interesting ideas inwhich to develop the idea further.

I used illustartor and this was my result and can already see the Improvement as the colour was more one toned and more striking and bold and fit in with my previous shots much better, however the image might be slighly too bright and could be toned down to create a more mysterious feel, but that could be easily done at a later date

Heres some further cocept of potential idea inwhich to develop this shot, basically I want the white character which is done quite roughly, to run across the screen, however im not sure as if to her running of have the lanscrape move to give the feel of her running but she remanins in the middle, however that can be experimented at a later date.I also liked the idea of making the figure more like that of catch me as you can which would work well but could require alot of work and maybe a bit too contrasting to the style. I also thought of the idea of having sots of blood in the window as the runs past which could be a nice effect, which I have done a quick concept for. Other ideas or I could have the sky start of light then get darker maybe to give the feel of it turning to night, which is worth experimenting with or even maybe the buildings get darker / lighter. I think the most obvious plave for the text will be at the bottom but shall maybay experiment with other places

Digital Film Year 2 - Development Shot 4

Shot 4 taken from the storyboard was a shot inwhich you were showed a picture of the womans family with all their heads crossed off, however I have decided to delete this shot from the film title sequence as I could already tell from some of my development of previous shots and the ideas which I were thinking of would add a few seconds onto the shot and with only having a 30-45 second deadline I though it would be a benifitial idea to delete this scene as out of the lot this was the scene I could get away with most be deleting, as its not as important as others any by not including theres still a sense of mystery as instead have been told, you want to watch to find out why she was given the briefcas and her motive. A reason why I want to stick to a 30 second sequence is because I wanted the sequence to be fast and in your face linking well to the genre apropiatly.

Digital Film Year 2 - Development Shot 3

For my the 3rd shot I wanted to have an image of the woman holding the briefcase in her hand, as it would follow on well from the previous shot of the man holding the case and walking through the door So I cam across this image in the novel which is perfect to experiment with and hopefully create some interesting effects and imagery.

This is a concept I came up with the image, in where all the squares would join up at the center to create the image of the woman however I was not too keen on the results as I thought it would be too contrasting to the syloette feel i was aiming to ehich I have focused on within the previous shots and to be honest I dont like the image too much as its not very effective and dosent stand out well among the black background. However it was good to experiment with as I now new of several techniques which wont work aswell as others.

Heres a quick experiment I did with different styles of media, I used chalk as the outline and shading of the woman which I did quickly as was just experimenting really with and base further development of the media, on my results, I used red card for the briefcase as to mix to different styles however really didnt like this image even though it was in a rougth state I didnt want to develop this idea any further I just found that the scanner took too much of the detail away, even on the eye This experiment wasnt really sucsessful.

Heres another interesting image I found while quickly browsing through the novel, I really like the angle of the image and the angle inwhich she held the gun as it is kind of aimed towards the viewers and another reason I liked the image it that it gives you a really good closeup of the woman picking up the gun from the breifcase and she has more of a sinister body posture unlike on the other image where she looks quite worried. So I believe this would be a better image to use to create a more sinister mysterious feel, I aslo have a couple of ideas to develop the image more.

Heres a developed concept of the image inwhich I drew around using illustrator then shaded in the black. I really like this image as It carrys on from the previous shots and links well using a simlar style of media and keeps that mysterious sinister feel well as thats the mood im looking for as its a Crime / Action novel. I have decided to leave the areas of the gun white as I have some ideas such as having something run across the gun such as bullets, or even just a shade of red, which would then when reach the end of the gun shoot out. Then maybe have a couple of splatters of blood on the corner. I also play to do something with the eyes and shall probably have them turning to red when shes about to shoot. I'm not sure as to where to place the text yet as theres plenty of potential ideas.

Digital Film Year 2 - Development Shot 2

I wanted the second shot to be a scene inwhich I wanted to include a shot of the guy holding a breifcase before handing it over to the girl which will be shown in the 3rd shot. I really liked this image I found in the novel as it showed the guy holding a briefcase, but what I really liked was you couldnt see his face, which added a sense of mystery and though of a good idea in which to include a shadow of the guys face oposite and have it enlarged which could become a good effect.

Heres a couple of images I found on the front and back cover of the novel which I really like however my worry is a dont want to copy them completly as I want to creat images that are my own but I really like the style and is the kind of feel i am ainming for within this shot. what I really like is the kind of shadow effect which are used, especially the use of straight lines which are used really well. I also like the way the agent is coming through the door which is really interesting . I really like the effect of the eyes aswell which could work well but not orange as im aiming for a 3 colour effect,

Heres a quick mockup I did By drawing the image on black card and cutting around it then placing it on white paper, I then drew in some Shadow lines, and then scanned it on to photoshop where I got the paint bucket tool inwhich to create a more bold colour and create more contrast between the black and white. I really like the image and puts great emphasis on the briefcase however Im not too keen of the placing off the shadow lines as it would work better with the feet included, however im happy with the progress and believe the idea will work really well.

Heres another image I really liked while browsing through the book in which I planned to experiment with and create a similar image to the one I previously did. However my one worry with this image is I was aiming to put emphasis on the briefcase however this image dosent require what I was looking for howvere I thought id develop this image further to see what the results where.

What I did here instead of using black and white card to create a cut out syloette feel like I did last time. this time I was told there was an easier way into gettting similar results in which I went on illustrator and drew around the outline with the pen tool and added in some longer shadow lines. Then once I finished the outline I played around with the image by rotating, resizing and playing around with colours for example whether or not to have the Background white or black and the man and shadows the contrasting colour. I played around until I got a result I was happy with.

Here is the result I came up with which Im really pleased about, what I really like about this image is The placing of the image and the way that the white is includes gives the feel of him walking through the door, which was done not intentially but looks greall good, also im really happy with the placing of the shadow lines and believe I could work better with the text for example having the text slighly above the lines which could work well. Unfotunatly I had to comprimise as this image dosent put much emphasis on the briefecase as I had planned it too, however I believe it is a better image than previous, and also gives a good effect of him walking through the door and will work well with the next shot of the girl been given the briefcase. I also really like the placement of the text which I have experimented with.

Potential ideas inwhich I could develop the shot further are I could animate the shadow lines which could work well and have them coming off the figure. Another idea I thought off which could look really good is to have a few blood splatters to the figure and have blood run down the shadow lines which could be a really interesting effect.
